Be a Cultivator!
We call it Cultivator because we believe God is already at work ahead of us. Our job isn’t to create
something from nothing, but to notice where life is already growing, listen for what God might be doing,
and then gently stir the soil, make room for growth, and join in where it makes sense. Cultivators help us
pay attention to what is happening in our communities and discover where God might be inviting us to
participate.
The Cultivator Program is launching for the fall/winter/spring season, and we’d love to have you be part of it!
Cultivators are young people aged 16–30 who help us build connections, create opportunities for young people across the Synod, and experiment with what peer ministry can look like in our local communities.
This is a paid position with the Saskatchewan Synod. The honorarium is $15.70/hour for roughly 10
hours per month.
What are we hoping to grow?
This year, my leadership goals are:
Grow our Weekly Huddle by welcoming as many new people as possible to become cultivators.
This is a weekly meeting for study, inspiration, and sharing of plans.
In-person gathering at the Fall Retreat, October 23–25, and at a Spring Retreat (date TBA).
Increase the number of local gatherings and events the cultivators are facilitating across the Synod.
Share leadership of the Weekly Huddle among Cultivators. You’ll have the opportunity to lead a
huddle, with an extra hour of paid time to prepare.
What would a Cultivator actually do?
There are just two main expectations:
1. Join the Weekly Huddle — Sundays at 1:00 p.m.
We’ll connect, talk, pray, learn, and plan together. If Sundays at 1:00 p.m. don’t work for enough
people, we can look at changing the time.
2. Try something in your local context.
We’d like each Cultivator to help start something new—or support something that is already
happening—in your local community. It doesn’t have to be complicated or huge.
For example:
• A weekly or bi-weekly lunch Bible study using our Picture / Mirror / Window format.
• A monthly movie night with discussion at your church.
• Do a short study on a book about Eco Theology or Empathy.
• Organizing and travelling together to another group’s event, concert, or program—or even doing
something completely different, like a thrift-store crawl!
• Speaking or helping lead worship on a special Sunday, such as Orange Shirt Day, Season of
Creation, or Christmas Eve.
The goal isn’t an amazing new program. The goal is to notice and use your imagination and gifts to do
something. The point is to create opportunities for people to connect.
